my 15 minutes of fame

Yesterday my picture was published in the Vanguardia (the national newspaper) ... it was the shot that Juan (my friend who is a photographer) did a few weeks ago for an article about fashion and real people. To be totally honest I don't like what they made me wear but hey ho... My face does not look too monstrous so that's good... and the main thing is that albeit small, it's good to get a tiny bit of exposure for my business! Unfortunately the magazine is not available online therefore if you missed my mug, then you'll have to wait until I get around to scanning it and putting it up here.

Lane sharing etiquette- an experience in the absurd

Yesterday when I arrived at the gym just before 14h, I was hoping that I would find the pool to be clearing out as it's lunch time here. Unfortunately this was not the case. The indoor pool was full and it was clear that I would have to share a lane with someone. This is always kind of a pain only because for some unkown reason people are so grumpy when forced to share the lane. I don't get it... they are definately big enough for two people to swim in comforatably... but anyway people always act all put out when you ask them... yesterday was no exception. I always try and chose a lane where the person seems to be able to swim in a fairly straight line and are not partaking in any both arms at the same rotation style backstroke or any crazy butterfly. So I approached this lady and asked...

podemos compartir? (can we share)?

She looked up at me as if I just asked her for her last penut m&m. I was astounded... so I then said.

Vale, si te moleste tanto, puedo preguntar a este chico a lado.. ( if it is really such an inconvience to you I will ask the bloke in the next lane)

She then looked at me and said

non non dar igual (nahh it's the same)

So I then said

vale, que lado prefieres? (which side do you prefer)

And she responded

no se, entras y veremos (i'm not sure, get in and we'll see)

I was so confused, has she really just asked me to get and do an audition to see which style of lane sharing I was eligible for?????

I gave her a mildly confused look and started off in the right hand side of the lane. When I got to the other side of the pool I looked over to see if she was swimming behind me as to take a view as to if I was going to re-turn back along the same side or instead down the left-hand side... and there she was still at the other end inspecting my swimming style!!! I swam back down the left hand side and when I arrived she said to me.

muy bien, sigimos asi (very well, we shall continue like this)

I was like what the fuck? thanks for the approval. I guess she had deemed me suitable to swim in a circut instead of sharing the lane. I simply do not get it. It's way more confortable for both parties to just swim at their own pace up and down one side... but since she was in the lane first she had crowned herself the owner of the lane. People are so bizzare. I mean how egotistical do you have to be? I can't imagine ever behaving this way to anyone in public. If I'm in a lane and I need to share, I do it with a friendly smile and a nod, and then tell the person I'll take the right or the left-hand side and that's it, no more interaction required.

It's people like this that I will never understand.

Here's to hoping I don't cross paths or lanes with her again.

In the spirit of spring...

and cleaning and organising... we are making good progress with all the Ikea putting-together and thus are finally after too many months able to un-pack things properly and re-gain some sense of order!!! With this brings the un-earthing of some pictures from the way back when machine.

This picture was taken on a trip I took with Danielle and Darrell to Quebec City to visit her parents. We endulged in the delights of 'la tire' which is none but hot maple syrup poured over snow and then wrapped around a popcicle stick. It is delicious and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. See there, today I don't feel like such a bad Canadian as I usually do!
Yummy 'tire' check out the vintage hair!!!

Today's delicious dish is an appetiser consiting of a tiny portion of my favorite bean dip! Darrell, my friend featured in the picture above introduced me to the evils of bean dip many years ago... Lucky my personal chef is good at re-creating it! Especially in this more calorie reduced format!

Buenisimo!!!

Let me show you the world in my eyes...

The grey and cold northerly winds have continued to blanket the city... on the plus side it does make for some pretty pictures... even if they are only from my cameraphone!

The grey stormy clouds at the beach

The big big freshly painted boat (from the window of the gym at the front)

A few small dingys at the harbor
And... the delicious dish of the day!

The rest of the day consisted in an epic journey to Ikea... the place where all relationships are put through the ultimate test... buying small accessories for your house is one thing but a full on wardrobe and other large objects buying mission is something entirely different... we made it thorugh the selection process with a few spats but by the time we had to push the impossibly heavy cart around the isles to collect the loot.. that's when physical and mental exhaustion set in. However the goods were delivered this afternoon and now we have the ultimate relationship test part two... putting all the evil goods together!!!!!

I swear I should stuff the luxury concierge service and offer an escort/security/councelling service to oversee such trips to ikea... I swear it's a genious idea!!! Anyone interested?

As I try and claw my way out

from under my duvet at a desperate attempt to join the world of the living... I feel that there are few chances of sucess. Not that I have not been working today... no no the big blue nipple with a handly key board is keeping me fed with an on going stream of digital sustinence. (yea my laptop is a blue Toshiba). I fear surgical removal may be required... I'll keep hoping that it isn't... but as we speak I have made it to the sofa now but duvet still on hand... however cycling to the gym with these high winds wrapped in my duvet may prove a bit more difficult... nothing is impossible my mum says... what am i saying? that's a lie my mother is so pragmatic she would never say that... she would say something more along the lines of... be happy with what is possible. that's more like it! Duvet and sofa it is then!!! woo woo!

Lunch today was suuuuuper yummy but as it was soup it's not realy photo-worthy... as soups can not be served in fancy shapes.

I've not yet discussed or even admitted it here on my blog yet but if you have noticed I have updated my "Read These" links... they needed some spring cleaning and I needed to bring myself one step closer to admitting that I have a terrible and ugly addiction to reading internet celebrity gossip sites... it's fierce. I think I must read one of the sites that updates regularly over 10 times daily... I'm soon going to have to re-title this blog to 'celebrity gossip re-hab'. Then come up with some content that distracts people from reading these sites... hang on I'll be right back after I click over and see if they've got the first pics of Angelina arriving at the American embassy with her newly adopted baby boy.... But if I've removed your link and you have since re-joined the blogging world do let me know and i will put you back up!

House hunting is the new black for both miss Andrea and mr Danny... they've picked up on the trend started in Toronto by Seestor and Brian and are too now also looking to co-habitate and co-mortgagate. Which got me to thinking... I can think but of two females within my network of friends whom are not the primary income providers in their partnerships... All the rest of them bring home more bacon or significantly moreso than their partners. This is nothing but an observation not a big social commentary or a salute to feminism... I think alpha females are simply friends with other alpha females... nothing more. Just wait... tomorrow one of them will write to me and tell me they are leaving their current partner and running off to marry a rich old man... that would de-bunk my theory completely!!!

Note to self

Do not foreget your towel and then swim outside pool just as the weather turns from tropical to FREEZING! You may also want to remember to eat breakfast before going to the gym in the morning as mid- work out you will almost blackout... then when trying to ride bike home in great wind with no energy... not such a good idea either.

So that's how my day started... good one no?

Lunch however was a different story... here is today's beautiful creation from my personal chef

Fresh tomatoes were so lovely! And if you don't know my personal chef... yes, everything always has to be served in a 'shape'... because it is!

Keeping up with the picture theme... Jo jo bought me this fab lip gloss for my birthday... I was initaly horrified as I am NOT a pink person but the Barbie special edition Mac Collection is really nice!

18.3.07

Well aren't I a clever girl

I've made it yet another year. 31 it is then... time is ticking over a little too quickly if you ask me. I feell like it just puts a massive spotlight on all I have not yet done! I remember when I was young I used to long to be older... I had this vision you see... that being an adult meant that I could eat an entire box of chocolates in one sitting if I pleased... however I didn't seem to get much further than that thought...

I had a lovely birthday and Fredu arranged a beautiful chocolate cake for me... it was certainly sorprendentemente crojuente!!! It's my new catch phrase... it was also the message on the cake. We had a nice night out and celebrated St. Paddies and St. Sarah's birthday at this new little pub on calle Ample. Great music and a good laugh.

The other day I was walking by my bike which is parked outside near my house and there was a little post-it note stuck on the saddle. I read...

How cute... my bike is getting solicited!!! Better it than me!!!

The other day Fredu made a most delicious and opulent dish... I've vowed to start taking pictures of them all... this one features angel wings for his angelita... it was well yummy of course!

12.3.07

She came... she saw...

and we drank cava!! Only a tiny bit but you know it's my poison so I do heed my drinking to accomodate...

The lovely Jo jo graced us with a visit this weekend. We had a great time doing a spot of shopping and some madness at Razmatazz when we went to go and see Tiga... but all was good. She is so lovely and looking quite lovely as well!

7.3.07

just when you think that summer is around the corner....

having a beautiful 21 degree day on Sunday followed by a nice pallea (and I even tried the fish one!) does not for one second mean that the lashings of rain and cold that happened here today were in order... brr me no likey.

I have FINALLY been paid... nothing like having to wait until march to be paid for Nov & December Invoices... Actually I'm still waiting for those but they managed to pay me for January first but who's complaining... money is good, even if it's already spent. Well maybe a bit less good but good nonetheless.

It's seestor's b'day tomorrow she be 33! and Also it's jo jo's birthday too! Jo jo will be arriving in the afternoon... sadly I can't even collect her from the bus she is arriving on from Girona as I have an EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL meeting but hey hoe... plenty of festivities planned for the weekend to make up for that. I hope seeestor has a good day. She'll most likely be busy shopping for shoes!

My one hour meeting at the agency this aft turned into a 4h one... I swear it's like a black hole going there it always swallows time... but it's worth it as I got Feb 26th gratzia while I was there... how sad... but how good? I'm soon to find out just what the 5quid IT bag is... and how I will never have it as it would have sold out two weeks ago... but hey, don't say you heard about it here first!

We've managed or moreso he's managed to paint over 90% of the really horrible dark brown borders that were around the doorframes and the tiles between the walls and the floor... the difference is amazing... what a great idea it was to do that! Now it's just sorting out the storage or lack there of issue... then we can decorate and buy some plants... and oh yea all the other things one can do when one gets paid!

Big hugs to joey for sending me the car package from London... containing yummies such as miso soup! You're an angel!!!!!

In true rock and roll style

I'm stting at home alone on saturday night... building fredu's website, watching the princess bride (dubbed in spanish of course) and also watching the eclipse... handy thing is, is that I don't even have to leave my house as the window out to my terrace gives a good view. To be honest it's kind of giving me the creeps... to me it looks blue... the bbc says it should look orange... maybe I'm blinder than I think? I think the thing that freaks me out more is when they keep saying that this will not happen again until 2029... As I've written about before, whenever future dates are mentioned it makes me kind of anxious and I freak out a wee bit... wondering what I'll be doing, where I will be... if I will still be here? Will I have learned anything? How many stupid mistakes did I make? This goes on until it all snowballs into a massive wave of anxiety that can only be calmed by convincing myself that I really don't have much interest in astronomy so really, what's the point in worrying... meanwhile the neurosis continues to spin around the deeper recesses of my brain... but luckly by that point my conciousness decides to make a bowl of popcorn and keep watching the movie... and get back to work.

That's rock and roll baby*...

* No heads were shaved during the writing of this entry... And no re-hab facilities entered.

Grey Grey Grey

That is what today's weather is giving us... my head, grey hair and tomorrow... a meeting at Grey... I hope they have the 100's of back issues of Gratzia that are still being delivered there...

View from my bedroom window (loooks like the slums!!!)

View 2 from my bedroom window (cool old chimney)

I was swimming outside yesterday afternoon and the clock/temp gague just before the gym read 19 degrees. Nice. It's about the same today apparently but because of the grey it's just not as inspiring to gym...

The past week has been very full of some of my most prolfic time wasting... watching back episodes of 2 seasons of the L word. I remember way back when, Dan and I watched the first season giggling along... then quickly fell into dispair when we realised we would have to wait another7 months for the second season to start... well it's been many years now and thanks to you tube I have made up for lost time. I had no idea they were even on season 4... but now i'm all caught up and I must once again wait like everyone else for episode 8 to go up online...

My birthday is once again quickly approaching... 31 this year... I wonder when I'll actually start feeling like a grown up? I was thinking that finding my first grey hair would do that but I'm wondering if like a lot of things they've always been there and I've just never noticed as I dye my hair too often...

I am trying to coax some positive energy into my life by repeating to myself...
something good will happen today... something good will happen today.

I'm still waiting.

20.2.07

I've been a good little camper

I've been trying to go to the gym every day and I've also taken to swimming 1k each time before I hit the gym. Swimming is just so theraputic for me... maybe because I'm a piscean... who know, but whatever it is, it works for me. I've got to start remember to bring my sun tan lotion as it's nice enough to swim outsite... but the sun's rays are still surprisingly strong... I don't want to turn into one of those leather ladies who sun themselves on the deck outside for hours apon hours every day.

The lovely Vero is spending some time with us this week to try and clear her head and figure out what she wants to do... lots of changes in her life right now... I'm really enjoying having her around!

Time passes so quickly and before I know it miss jo jo will be ariving to celebrate her b'day here with us! Should be fun, lets just hope we come up with something sufficiently fun to do while she's here!!!

Vero and I have undertaken an adventure, we've sent an email to invite the gossip master out for a night of the 'real barcelona' as he is here with his boyfriend celebrating their first anniversary together. If they're up for it then madness will of course ensue. Lets hope that this time the pole dancing is kept to a minimum. I hear that whomever was doing that on the metro the other day is still covered in bruses...

I have fallen hopelessly in love...

with this little guy. I've been dying to have a puppy for a long time... I finally have a flat and time to train and care for it... but as fate would have it... no money to buy it! Anyone have a spare 500 euros for me as an early birthday gift?

I feel mildly like a 7 year old scholl girl yearning after a picture of a dog... but lets face it, public humilliation is what blogging is all about right?

My afternoon today was not spent as per usual attached almost physically to my laptop... no no this afternoon I had my picture taken for a feature that will appear in one of the national newspaper's sunday magazine. I'm not sure I will make the cut as they are shooting 20 women but it would be great exposure for the business if I do! I'm not used to being primped and styled and put in front of a camera. To be honest it made me feel wildly insecure paired with the mild feeling of nausea. Thank goodness Juan was shooting the pics as since I know him, it wasn't as scary as it could have been... but it's over now and we can but pray for the mercies granted by the special hand of photoshop.

An open letter...

Dear Barcelona transport system

I'm writing to thank you for your great, efficient and clean service offerings. Your metro system is quite pleasant in comparison to a lot of other systems. However it came to my attention this weekend that there is one area of service that you have perhaps not yet properly assessed.

The spaciousness of some of carriages within the metro lines allows for ample pole dancing access. This readily available entertainment space can be unexpectedly hazardous not only to the physical being of those whom utilize it but to their dignity as well. This doesn't even take into account the visual horror/pleasure of the innocent bystanders.

Possible improvements would be perhaps identity concealing disco lights to aid in the protection of the integrity of any parties whom see themselves clever enough (fueled by liquid courage of course) to display their talent or lack thereof in the art of pole dancing on the metro after an afternoon of drinking and eating with friends. Rest assured that I can appreciate that other than padding the poles, very little can be done to protect the physical damage that said pole dancers may experience.

Thank you for your time,

Sarah

Is suicide the new black?

It's a dreaful thought but I can't help but wonder. I am so sad for both the Princess of Spain who's sister died on wednesday and also for the ever troubled Anna Nicole Smith who also departed this earth yesterday. I remember when Anna Nicole's son died just after she had given birth to her new baby I felt really sad for her... of course I do not know her but how tragic! And then a mere few months later she checks out as well. All the gossip sites are screaming conspiracy... I think everyone should just leave them be...

On a more cheery note... I was chatting with danny baby about the book miss andrea bought for herself and I when I was over visiting a week ago. Mmm good book and yummy donughts!

I literally devoured the book (I would have if I could have) it was really nice. I reccomend it to all... I even told my mum to read it during her holiday.... She was mildly sceptcical fearing only slightly that I was making her read a self help book... I assured her that this was not the case and that it is only a work of fiction. Aces to my lovely bf who nipped out while I was finishing the last chapters of the book and returned with a box of donoughts (same as the ones on the cover) he is so sweet and so were the donughts!

I only wish the book could have helped the two afformentioned ladies before they met their untimely demises...

The ever truant sun

Has made a glorious return here today... and just in time if you ask me... It was starting to feel like perma-london grey!

I'm very excited as I am starting to work with a dear friend of mine from back in London who has his own company http://www.honestydesign.co.uk check out his work it's very very nice!

I've mostly been attempting to be constructive and productive of lately... i have a few of my paintings on exhibition in my friend's space here in bcn drop by and buy!!!

Creativity all around really which can only be good... good for the soul me thinks. I am quickly approaching my 666th blog entry, for which I am going to cook us something good and evil. 20 something posts to go... I've got a bit of time to come up with something crafty.

Mum is off to Puerta Vallarta on Wednesday and shortly young eric will be off to the caribean... all i can say is NICE! They both are well deserved of a rest... now just why neither of them are taking me with them... well that's another story entirely... clearly I have not worked hard enough :)

It's a musical theme lately

but I had the inspiration to make some delish cd's for kim who is braving winter in the great white north. I came across one of my favourite cover versions of all times. It's done by 08001 a band/project from Raval here in Barcelona. They are so brilliant. They are probably about as numerous as bran van 2000 (if you can remember them... Well any way, 08001 have a myspace page and on it they have their version of 'the forest' by the cure. I saw them perform it live 2 years ago at the Merce festival where they played the closing set at placa cataluyna. Check them out... I hope kimmie likes them.

My lovely assistant from my last job... aka mini-me has officially resigned today! I am so pleased for her. She is simply far too brilliant to work where she is anymore, and now she is off to graze in greener pastures! Congrats Chiara!!!

Singing along to the new tragically hip alblum

I feel that tiny bit more Canadian than normal. I’ve almost lived away from the great white north for almost 7 years now. Amazing really how time flies… but this new album is a pretty little nibble of Canadiana.

If I knew anything about astrology I would guess that mercury would be in retrograte for all Pisceans. Well for my sister at least. She’s certainly got a lot of major changes up her sleeve. I am also a Pisces and really hoping to dodge the wave of changes. I don’t think I could handle anything else right now. My dance card is full, and I don’t want to learn any new steps thank you very much.

I had a nice weekend back in London this past weekend and caught up with all the girlies. The lovely miss Andrea was kind enough to provide me a place to sleep. Poor Danny had to put up with the two of us giggling endlessly about nothing in particular. I know he just loves it when I come to stay (sic). Our tea and marmite supplies are now once again bountiful and we are not short of proper chocolate and twiglets too… with that said I feel obliged to dig out my gym clothes and burn off some of said bounty.

Hasta la proxima

If you needed any other convincing that the world…

Has gone crazy… you need not look much further than Spain’s recent obsession with the good old fashioned lie detector. All the shows are stuffed with celebrities putting themselves to the test to prove their guilt or innocence… mostly all related to some failed romance with some other celeb. I wonder why this phenomenon has not yet hit states side? I can just see oprah now with her very own dr. lie hooking up Tom Cruise and asking him if there are really aliens out there and if his child is the spawn of one of them….

Or perhaps the whole mess with UK celeb big brother is the second gong of the Armageddon?

Perhaps it’s just day time TV as a whole that is spiralling us all very quickly towards damnation.

Not too soon please… we just aquired a fridge, a washing machine and two sofas today… All we need now is a wardrobe and a lot of kick ass storage solutions and we’re open for tourist season… bit cold yet but you know it’s not far off… Internet will take a while but getting the credit card acceptance thing up and running is a lot easier than I thought… the 1000k worth of charges per 3 month period is a bit looming… but it’s only a 116 euro fee if you don’t ring up enough money…

bzzzzzzzzzzzz back to your regularly scheduled lie detector talk show....

14.1.07

Perhaps...
It's been the two days without properly digesting food (thanks to a nasty stomach virus) or perhaps it's the affects of frenadol on such an empty stomach... it's hard to tell... But sitting at home on Saturday night watching Hamlet on DVD I cam up with a stroke of genius.

Dear Angelina...

I know you are a very busy lady but I am one who never shys away from helping someone... even so far as to look ahead to foresee any possible problems and solve them before they happen. With this in mind I have found you a possible next husband. God knows why you would leave the lovely brad... but heaven help the eventuality of such an unfortunate occurance, I have for you some condolance. I have for you the most genetically suited individual lined up for you (his now wife will also have to forgive me for writing this) however lets get to the point. May I suggest mr Karl as a suitable replacement. I am not sure what his views are on children but lets face it, if there was a match then can you imagine how fab the lips on your kiddies would be??? Did I mention the sexy Irish brogue? Enough said. Angelina, just remember you are rich and famous and I am not... so donations to my own personal charity are of course being accepted. (I've got to pay a mortgage somehow!?!?!)

Angie meet Karl

Thanks for you time...

You friend, Sarah
ps. you better act quick as on reflection he kind of looks like Pete Doherty all cleaned up and off the smack... best get your bid in as you may have to mud wrestle kate to get him.

it's a beautiful

15 degrees here today in sunny barcelona. My new flat however I think is a bit (A LOT) chillier. We are such stoopid people... we did not realise that we were not yet properly connected to electricity therefore are not paying for it yet! This means crank up the space heaters!!!!!!! I think once we manage to get some furnishings in we will be a bit warmer as well. All in due time. We are still so pleased for having finally found somewhere!

I cant wait for the summer as our terrace is super sunny all day long!

Work is back on and finding time for my own projects is quite challenging... waiting at least a month until we can have our own internet connection is a bit of a pain but sometimes if we are lucky we can catch a free connection... thank goodness!

Xmas in Canada was really lovely. I think spending the full 2 weeks there really made a difference to me. Usually it is such a rush. I got to catch up with my friend Chris from highschool which was great! I saw the lovely saoise who is now 1 year old. She is so sweet and calm natured!

Here is a pic of me modelling my new sharky toy from my grandparents... cheeky grin and all.

Me and Sharky

On another more somber note the beautful Jan (whom I went to see back in London) passed away just before xmas. I was so happy that I had the chance and the joy of seeing them play while I could. We will miss you Jan!

Jan and his lovely daughter (and co-dj) Tamara at the Dragon (their last gig)

Success!

well after a long long long road and a lot of blood sweat and tears... we finally have a new abode! The contract was signed yesterday and we are the proud new renters of a flat! I really was begining to think that we would end up becomming professional couch surfers... next challenge will be to furnish the place and make it ours. However it is a nice challenge one that I am really looking forward to nesting!

Things here in the great white north are not so white... No snow at all this year, not even a flake! It has been really great to be home and de stress a bit. My mum has had the past two days off of work so we have been able to spend some good quality time together. Last night we went to the cinema and saw the film the Holiday... cheezy romcom yes, but it was sweet... I know a certain person who would have loved it. I will take him to see it when I get home (other home).

Yesterday mum bought an enormous canvas and has comissioned me to paint her a nude while I am here so she can hang it in her room. I had to be careful to not do anything too provocative! I really hope it comes out nicely! The costs of art supplies here when they are not on the xmas sale yet are just insane!

Today I am off to meet my sisters monsters (aka students) tomorrow to Saiorses 1st birthday party and then friday perhaps out with my friend Chris that I have not seen in over 10 years!

13.12.06

Congratulations

To Yvonne and Benoit who have become the foster parents for the very first time to a lovely baby boy. He is so cute. They will be great parents for him!!! He´s so tiny but he´s got huge hands!! He´s going to be a good basketball player!

if you turn the dial back on the way back when machine

to say about 10 years or so... you would find me mostly just about getting over a relationship... I wrote about it before... it was a guy I was seeing from Uni whom kind of dropped off the face of the earth. I really fancied the pants of him but then he just vanished... I wrote about this on my blog about 2 years ago when I had a similar experience with someone else i was dating... I was begining to wonder if :

1) I drove them away or
2) I just have a knack of picking people who are about to have a crisis (independant of their relationship with me) that causes them to vanish...

I guess it's easier for me to blame myself as then I can resolve it.... well sometimes there are happy endings. The guy from 10 years back sent me an email out of the blue the other day. He had obviously found my blog... and my story about him... I must admit I felt mildy mortified... I know this is a public space but I guess sometimes it comes as a surprise as to who actually reads this! All good news of course. He is alive and well and producing offspring in a hurried fashion... his 4th is due in Feb! Fab no? I am so pleased that he is well and has found happiness. Closure is good :)

Speaking of happy endings... I saw a movie last night called happy finishes or something like that... and no it is not porn! It was with Tom arnold, Lisa Kudrow, Maggie Glyddenhall... nice film!! I also saw another one with Ben affleck... i can't remember what it was called but he was an agent for screenwriters in LA... it was entertaining too! What a coup both films we chose were good!

7.12.06

Dear Mum...

I am writing to you as I can finally report that we have a strong possiblity of a place we want to call our home... I know you don't speak that much spanish but I am sure the pictures will help give you an idea...

Love Sarah

Just kidding... but what a cute/very alternative lifestyle place to live! Unfortunately it would not fit all my shoes...

Going by how bad my mariado (dizzyness) is becoming I think I should seriously look into becoming my own self sustaning source of energy... All this spinning! I could heat the house with this! I am trying to calm down and to not stress so that it subsides a bit but it doesn't seem to be working! One positive thing is that the long lost passport is now in my hands! It's a biometric jobby. It's funny as it expires in 2016... the date makes me feel funny like writing a date 10 years in the future makes me feel like there will then be accessible space travel and other strange futuristic things happening then... guess it would have been the same back when I was 20 and I had my first passport issued... who would have thought I would be writing about a biometric passport now? It's a very modern looking thing... however I am mildly convinced that they are able to track my every movement by this biometric mechanism so they know where I am at all times... paranoia? Did you call me an asshole? LOL

The ever so clever Sinead

Is in the front running for providing leads to the whereabouts of one mr. Woody Allen. It's hilarious! She informs me he was staying in London in a flat let out by the same estate agents I used while living in Notting hill... I'm sniffing along that trail... Lets see if my contact there still works there!

Congrats to her btw on finding a new and most fabulous job!!!

Today I am buried under numbers like you can not beleive! must tie everything up so that it's tickity boo before I fly to the great white north. I know it's 16-18 degrees here but it still feels chilly... I looked up the temp in Toronto yesterday and was reminded of a very different reality! Snow boots here I come!

Spirals...

Once upon a time long ago back in the land of Ottawa and Filament Communications my friend mark sent me a url to a website... I was so enamored, I love the site and the wide flow of her creativity. I once said to Mark in passing 'I wish I could be spiral girl'... Mark is wise, very wise... he wrote to me a few hours later... a simple email saying... 'sarah, there is no need for you to be spiral girl, because you are you, and that's pretty damn good too!'

I think I will always remember that... I know in the last few years I have had some enormous highs and enormous lows... but I think If I take a bit more time to take a look inside, I may just be able to remind myself of Mark's words more often. I think this came to me today as I was writing an email to my friend Hon whom I've not spoken to in ages! I was sending him my host of URL's for all my projects and stuff that I call my life... and yes, I guess time and a bit of faith in myself has allowed me to do some interesting things too... for that I am greatful.

Sometimes it's nice when you get a little glimpse of yourself growing up... too often I forget, but perhaps I should not rush too much... see the world as the here and now and not constant planning the future... Can you tell I have been watchin a load of american made for TV xmas movies dubbed into Spanish. Yup. I'm afraid so!

Secret office is the new black

without a home or a fixed internet connnection work of my nature is quite a challenge. I am currently sitting in the latest of what we now call secret office... I have no idea where the term came from but until this tuesday, secret office was faborit a coffee place in the gothic quarter... they no longer exist (such is the fast turn over of properties in bcn) I'm not quite sure what they have turned it into but rumour has it that it isr re-opening today... not sure yet if they have free wi-fi... new secret office is the ex dutch bar now japanese bar/lounge... much cooler and the staff here are so lovely!

We got all the papers in an faxed across to the agency for the offer we put in on the flat we saw on wednesday. I am crossing fingers that we get it. Unfurnished but still big and bright... time will tell. Good news however, one of the other flats we made an offer on came back to us and it's also another option... however it is lowest on my list of the 3 we are wrangling for. I swear to god I could write a book on this whole experience! I guess it's a learning experience... so from it I can only gain right??? tell me yes.

I tracked down my missing passport today... apparently it has been ready for a month! However it was accidently placed in the courrier (to be picked up box) instead of the post back to me by regular post please pile... phew. Now we just have to see if the thing makes it from Madrid to Barcelona before the 15th... May be more of a challenge than you may thing... there is a holiday here next week and no one is working from wed-friday... helli long weekend before xmas! I guess I should be a good expat and find out what the holiday is about... so many here it's hard to keep track!

I am really really going to enjoy once again having a place to live... wherever it ends up being I can assure that there will be lots of nesting!

Anyone know how I can track down woody allen? He's shooting here in the new year and it would be a real coup if we could place him in the accomodation our new partner has... check out how swizz it is! I'll buy you some fab new shoes if you can!

Surely the weekend is starting now... it's nearly 20h... where in goodness did the week go?

28.11.06

Time marches on at a hurried pace

And although we are putting offers in on two flats tomorrow they are polar opposites... One is over furnished and the other is completely not furnished... wrangling about prices is the big thing therfore I see no end in sight quite just yet... I NEVER want to move again... that is of course until I can afford to buy a place (which is probably years away but still)

I did a painting this weekend... it's updated on my painting site... simple but I love the colour combo...

It was the BAC here in Barcelona this week and comme les garcons were giving away free samples... I snickered to myself invisaging the openings that insue in the following weeks... Room full of art lovers wreaking of the same cologne... hilairious... It's a small city here folks... I will purposely not be wearing it for a while to avoid such a fateful event.

My ever naughty British Passport has not yet arrived which makes me VERY nervous about getting home at xmas... I will have to break down tomorrow and ring them on their bloody premium rate number to inquire as to it's whereabouts... why is it that disaster constantly circles all to which i endevour to acheive? Perhaps it's not realism that I subscribe to but moreso pessimism which breeds constant medling in my life....?

Ze girlies in London town

It's just about a month left before I jet home for xmas and the days are zipping by faster than I can imagine. I finally have the Spanish version of my company website up and live which is a huge relief!

House hunting continues... will it ever end???

Days (actually more like hours) of summer blond are numbered... Vero is going to sort me out this afternoon so I look partially presentible when returning home in a few weeks.

Evil recruiters are nipping at my heels and I am dreading the temptations of evils that they will dangle in front of me (I will keep the focus on my company I will keep the focus on my company!!!)

As I type the Paris Hilton single plays throughout the internet caf... I still stand by my original opinion that it's not half bad... but I know it will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day... Punishment of sorts surely for liking evil things.

16.11.06

My new best friend

Her name is betty y ella es bonita! Her mummy is having puppies in 5 weeks... then two months later they will be ready for new homes... just in time for someones birthday... would that be mine per chance?

10.11.06

oh yes...

I own it... the black victor and rolf trenchcoat that whipped London into a frenzy yesterday. I got one and was not 100% sure that I liked it. The shop was like a mad house so I picked it up and decided that I would get KJ's and jojo's opinions when I saw them later. Good idea sarah! Jo jo fell in love with instantly thus it did nto take me long to decide it was for her that I must have bought it! This morning splashed all over Metro was the headline "trench warfare" referring to the crazyness that took place yesterday. They are already retailing on ebay for 150 quid! I'm just happy that giving it to Jo Jo made her happy!

Last night I caught up with lady andrea and lord danny at the pub after work. Lady Andrea proved that eating only soup and bread roll makes you incredibly when mixed with then drinking two large glasses of wine instantly makes one suseptible to Tandori Tourrettes syndrom... which saw her sputtering out various Tandori cuisine elements as we walked to the tube to head home. Utterly hilarious. I think I get so many funny blogging stories in London!

Jo jo was talking to me last night when we got home to her place and showed me the text that she had received from miss woo a few days ago... it was about a dream that she had where I was on a game show and I won 38k! How strange and scary and spooky is that! Secret mission is tomorrow afternoon at 15h30 so we will see how it goes! I bought a euro millions ticket tonight just incase her dream was premintion and that I am going to win 38 million????

If my next post is from somewhere in the maldives you'll know that my ship came in!

7.11.06

Time is just swirling around me

and the same things keep coming back again and again and nothing is getting resolved! Get me off this merry go round! Speaking of spinning... my annual stress/inner ear infection has resurfaced and I am wobbling around like a drunk person... Vertigo is not a pleasant thing! I hope this clears before I attempt to travel on Thursday. I can see myself now... hauled over at customs not for having a passport that is about to expire but because they suspect that I am intoxicated!!! I love it!

I did a new painting over the weekend. It's a bit of a new direction of sorts for me as it is much more detailled than I usually do... I think it's interesting. It sure photographs really well... but I think I am better suited to more abstract things... check it out here.

Robert the art challenge may just be on again! You ready?

2.11.06

I'm not sure if it's the

Detox that I was trying to do... or if it's having quit the detox after only 2 days... but I am feeling a bit more human today at last! I guess it's the two cups of coffee pumping through my system.

The flat situation is still dire but that is no surprise. Lets not kid ourselves...

I'm looking forward to London next week (that is if they let me in). I simply refuse to pay the 1.10 euro fee to ring the madrid embassy only for them to re-confirm that passport processing takes 10 working days and a max of 5 weeks. I know i can not get my new passport back before I travel... there is no use draining my energy fighting a lost cause.

lost causes... something i should be very concious of.

sigh.

bring on the better times please.

26.10.06

want to play a fun game?

It's called never ending disaster and it's based loosely on the principles of my life! Smart me finally finall finally sends off my UK passport for renewal YESTERDAY. There is almost no chance they will renew it and send it back before i need to leave on the 9th.... No worries I'll travel to London on my Canadian one! Oh look Sarah it's expiring on the 15th of November! You know how they are they don't like you travelling at all with you passport about to expire....

Lets see how quickly the canadian passport office will offer to renew me!!! Thank god they have an office here in BCN... the UK one is only in madrid (for passports). Seestor if you read this do NOT panic. (she has already bought her ticket to come to London with me that weekend) I will sort it out somehow...

disaster thy name is me

24.10.06

She came, she saw...

And I managed to forget about all the stress in my house hunting nightmare for a few days. It was a real treat to see my friend Kim she is just so fab! I only wish we did not live on opposite ends of two separate continents!!!

Dispair mounts as the only place I saw that was nice and cheap in the last few months of searching... we did not get. The girl chose a couple closer to her own age! Dear god. Now i am OLD and homeless!

18.10.06

Just when i swore...

I was not going back to london any time soon... oh I am... in a few weeks for a secret mission... and a catch up with the london crew of course... more news as it becomes available...
brilliant

simply brilliant it was... the movie 'Match Point' we watched it last night to try and escape a bit from all this stress... I thoroughly enjoyed it although some people got pretty nervous and could't watch the whole thing :) I've never been a big woody allen follower or fan... but this was really entertaining. I'm not sure it's even been properly released here in spain or if it was i who missed it completely... i'm helplessly behind in all things cinema.

Andrea the little sleuth that she is thinks she has cracked the 3 year old mystery of where to find the brown anna friel shoes she had in that 3G commercial way back when... I can't quite remember exactly what they looked like but these puppies are very nice!

17.10.06

oh yes...

just when you think it couldn't get worse... yup it can. We've learned this lesson by now Sarah come on!

the flat we rented for the week... had no running water for the first day...then the owner called and appologied but she had forgotten a booking at the last minute and we have to be out by wednesday which leaves us high and dry... even in low season it is very difficult to find a flat to rent in barcelona...

After many many hours of searching... and many many euros in phone calls I found a place... the same place i stayed with my sister 2 and a half years ago... phew!

this is NOT fun... i do not reccomend this activity in futility to anyone...

and oh yea just for the icing on the cake... the guy who's flat we were supposed to be renting but pulled out after making us wait for over a month... has put his ad back on line... nice! good luck to you asshole!

13.10.06

I did...

another painting this weekend... this one for Mele and Nicolas for their wedding present. I tried to be a bit more conservative as I did not want to offend them... I hope they like it... if not they can always re-gift it to someone for xmas :) I won't be offended! Check it out on my paintings site http://sarahjarrettpaintings.blogspot.com

The rain has stopped... and today I am packing up to move... to another temporary place... the flat the girl who's flat we are staying in now is returning tomorrow for a week before leaving again to Vietnam for another two months... Living out of a suitcase part dos!!!

I bought a couple of dvd's while in london because they were cheap... and because I have no cable... I got some gems... and some personal favourites...

- wedding crashers (had not previous seen it... I really liked it)
- the cable guy (dark dark funny funny)
- who put the M in Manchester (for ze boi who was dying to buy it... cost me a fiver in the UK and it's on sale here for 35 euros!)
- drop dead fred! (classic!)
- cruel intentions (yea yea yea but I love it!)

I'm still recovering after the disapointment a few weeks back after having seen 'the breakup' what a sad ending... I shall say no more!

12.10.06

sucess!

Well the housing situation is still grim... but on a positive note my new business site is coming up on the first page of google search! I am well pleased about that... now I just need to convert it to some more business!!!

I seem to have brought the rain with me back from London... Being back there at the begining of the week was nice but I was VERY happy to leave... the airport security measures are just insane now... I'll take a pass on returning there for the near future.

We have a four day weekend here... it's spain day or something like that... whatever it is it means that we don't work today or tomorrow. Time to catch up on some zzzzzzzzzz's and oh yea... find somewhere to live!

6.10.06

No big surprise really

But the flat we have been waiting for for the last month... just fell through. The guy renting it gave us the run around and was still confirming with us last week... yesterday they pulled out citing their continual problems with their current tennants... it´s such a pain really... the house hunt has to start all over again and the only things I can see on the market now are horrible and small and yuckie oh and yea did I mention expensive!!!!!

went to see a locale space last night for Vero... the guy showing the space was telling us about this flat he saw for sale for 60k imagine! Dear lord it must be falling to pieces... you damn near pay close to that in rent in a few years... I'm going to hunt it down as it's always worth having a look... ring ring... hey mum wanna buy me a rotted flat in bcn for 60k? Cheers!

sigh... I´m gonna buy a tent and go live on the beach.

5.10.06

Soooooo much to report

Time is spinning by quicky and although moving into my new flat is delayed until possibly the end of the month the temporary accomodation is a great stroke of luck... albeit very much on the damp smelling side I am greatful!

I've been busy working on this part time contact and trying to hustle things with barcelona luxury... all quite a challenge with no internet in my temporary accomodation. Of course today I have run into a mail server challenge... the form on the site is being delivered but the rest of my accounts are not cooperating and not working at all. I am at a loss... I guess I will wait to see if it's a hosting problem or something from my side.

I am off to London for two days early next week for the project kick off meeting for the contract job... It will be so fab to see everyone! Then as an added bonus Kim is coming to visit from Edmonton the following week! I've not seen her in eons! I am so excited. She is holidaying in London and is jetting over to spend 4 days with me while she's on this side of the pond!

Mele's long awaited wedding is this saturday and it should be great fun. I am so happy for her and nicolas. I just need to decide on which outfit to wear. KJ would be pleased as I finally have an event to which I can wear the YSL shoes she bought me for xmas last year!!! Ze boi will be absent which is disapointing as it's never fun to go dateless to a wedding but hey ho... work is more important...

It's alive!

My new venture's website! www.barcelonaluxury.com check it out and tell your friends about it!!!
I never knew it...

However I have a new mum and dad... they live in australia and they have a new pet! They sent me a bunch of pictures to my gmail account... what a cute animal... I have no idea what it is! I did drop them a line to let them know they had the wrong addy :) I wonder if we are related? I looked at the pics of the 'dad' and couldn't spot any major resemblance to mine...

I am such a clever girl i managed to send Fredu's b'day present to joey's old house in london... thus why it did not arrive to her before she left to fly to barcelona on friday... i have such a terrible history of him and shoes for his birthday... one time i bought them from ebay and they fell victim to a fire in a post truck... thus they never arrived... then the next time they arrived and then got left in the back of a taxi... now this year i buy them and send them to the wrong bloody address!! I have no luck at all! Note to self do not buy this man shoes via ebay!

My new venture's site will be up today I am having problems with the contact form but I will simply publish the site with the email contact address and the contact phone numbers for now... The business cards will be ready to collect this afternoon so all engines are go! I will post the URL here once it's all up and pretty!

Happy B'day Fredu and Joey!!!

19.9.06

last night

I had this really vivid dream. I was learning how to kite surf. I was so happy I wasn't half bad at it which really surprised me. I have no idea why but for some reason in my dream I was dating the ex of jessica simpson... Nick lachey or something like that and he was with me kite surfing. When I woke up I felt so buzzed like I had actually been kite surfing... just where the bloke came from I have no idea... When I was down at the beach this afternoon on my way to the gym I looked out for the kite surfers but today there were none... I guess there was only enough wind in my dream!

Back to business now... I've got business cards to get printed and a website that won't finish designing it's self....

17.9.06

Muy divertido

Last night while talking to andrea via skype she sent me this it is just so funny!

Then she sent me this morning a picture of her fab new shoes with the following caption>

Hide your pet zebr

Andrea is very very funny... if you did not view the first link then it will make no sense to you...

I think my day is complete now and it's only 13h!

13.9.06

Clearly

No one was up for my challenge... I sure was but have run into a few problems... Today has been a total wash out... both figuratively and literally. The rain and thunderstorms here have been opressive. When it rains it pours !!! I have managed to develop a nice illness which has kept me in bed all day with a burning fever and tonsils the size of golf balls. Not at all what I wanted to be doing when my to do list has reached epic proportions... I read somewhere that when your to do list has more than 20 items on it, it is no longer a to do list but a bigger thing entirely.

However on a positive note that contract came through and I will be working on a pretty interesting project for the next 3 months for approx 2 days per week. The cash will be a nice thing to keep me a bit more comfortable while I start the business... Dreamweaver permitting my site will be live within the next few days...

You know that there is never a dull moment in my life and yesterday I found out that my moving plans have been slightly altered... we are now not going to be able to move into the new flat until november... A huge pain but luckily a friend of Fredu's is off travelling for 3 months and we can kip at hers... As I said to Andrea yesterday... I'm sure not in notting hill anymore!! Patience my mother says... So I will take a deep breath and try not to swallow (to avoid the tonsil pain)

I've been doing a lot of reflection this week as have most people in the western world I can but suppose. The 11th was horrible, undescribable and haunting. I hate that it happened and I sympathize dearly with all the people who died and for all the families who lost their loved ones... but there are a few very big unanswered questions..... why does no one mention the other planes... there is the flight 93 movie but what about the one that crashed into the pentagon? There is a very eerie silence when it comes to details on that. Does no one find it alarming??? Does no one question how the hundreds of thousands of women men and children have died in iraq and afganistan at the hands of american forces? How can people turn a blind eye to it? Is it easier because all the casualties there are not dying all on the same day? Is it easier to swallow and deny? I just don't see sence. All parties involved are guilty. All need to take responsibilites for their actions and be clear and transparent with their countries... I fear this will never be a reality for the americans... as for the Iraqi's and the Afgans... I am not sure. I think it's hard to face but all parties must accept responsibilty and stop this insanity.

Back I shall crawl to my sick bed... rest assured that the above paragraph will most likely be my one and only political rant of this year.

6.9.06

Anyone up for a challenge???

Well the work on my business has not been very focused lately... it's funny how for the past 8 years or so I have worked in the digital media business... here I sit with very little money in my pocket and the challenge to develop my corporate identity on my own... I am rubbish! It's quite funny really as I am always the head of the team... trying to learn how to run with body parts you can readily identify but very badly operate is tricky!!! To everyone I have worked with in the past... you know I always say that 'you are the expert' well I really really really mean it now!

I think we have found a flat... in the same neighborhood. Sharing with a nice guy from Madrid who is very rarely around. It's going to need some TLC as it is quite neglected... but for the price it's a bargain and who's afraid of a little hard work and some interior decorating???? umm if my webdesign stills are anything to go by... we may need some help!!! LOL While searching for a place I met an extrodanarily lovely couple whom have a gorgeous flat uptown. Although due to the location we decided against asking them if they would have us... they are a truely kindred spirits. You never know, things in life happen for a reason... That I am certain of!

I have challenged one of my lovely blog readers to an art project. I have ventured to try and produce two peices in the next week on the premise that he creates one. Will he accept? Anyone else up for the challenge? I shall post the results of course... go on get out your creative hat... produce something... anything... nothing is a better pick me up that completing a task! I swear to god I was meant to be a teacher... just listen to me!!!

1.9.06

Since I have last...

Written much has happened…all of which is quite scary but exciting too!

1) I sliced my left hand open quite fiercely while trying to make more room in my rubbish bin… silly me managed to get the tin of tuna I had just opened to go straight through me. I almost fainted when I saw how big and deep it was…but I survived and now 4 days later I still hunt and peck on my keyboard to type this out for fear of tearing open the delicate wound between my thumb and my forefinger. Not fun!!! People at the gym have been nice to me and help me adjust the equipment when it requires two hands.

2) Gymmed lots! Mar a two day absence due to hand slicing activities…I have been 8 out of the last 10 days J It feels so good to get those endorphins back! My bellies are happy too as they are reducing!!!

3) Worked on my new business idea…albeit difficult to type I am making progress…even if it is slow…I liken the feeling at times to something like how you feel when you are at school and you have a project you know you should be working on… but you keep procrastinating!?!? I will get there! I have to!!!

4) Given notice on my flat…I love it here however it is time to be economical and that means reducing the rent I pay per month. I have not found a place yet which makes me VERY nervous…but I have 29 days more to do so, so no panic yet!!!

5) Been offered a chance to do some sweet part time PM work for a client of the last agency I worked for... I am well excited about that one!!!

Busy times…but I still managed to enjoy lunch on the beach this afternoon after the gym with a lovely handsome man…

I hope the sunshine finds you wherever you are this weekend!

I am hoping that my recent productivity will also reach to my actual painting. It has been a while but I think I am ready to finish this piece I have been working on for the last few months... *kicks self up the butt*

Have a good weekend enjoy the long weekend all yee brits I will send you some sunshine!

If there is one thing...

That I have learned in these last few months… that is stress is the root of all evil. Having these last few weeks off has been really really good for me. Don’t get me wrong I was quite stressed at time during my holidays… trying to make sure everyone was happy and such… but I mean more in general. I think the biggest evidence is my lack of total intolerance to the sound of the street vendors outside my bedroom window who rattle those silly magnets together for hours and hours on end… I am not sure if you know what I am talking about… but they are two strongly magnetic rocks that make a hell of a racket when you throw them in the air and the tumble back down hitting against one and other. Now, before I left my job, the noise these things make would fly me in to a terrible rage, at times I even really really wanted to go downstairs and physically harm the vendor… However now here I sit after a successful day working on my new business, setting up a potential exhibition and having just returned from a good workout at the gym… my window is open and I can hear the maddening ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip sound and my blood pressure is only now slightly raised… I can feel a definitive change in the weather here in the last few days, autumn will move in quickly this year me thinks… I have so many pictures that were taken on the holiday I do not know which to post… I’ll start with these.

seestor on her first night here! God we look alike now!

Seestor and her new beau Brian

Sharky! (and KJ said i did not need to buy him from Ikea)

See! Sharky proved to be very useful... he went to pick up jo jo!

But it did not help us being board as we waited forever for jo jo to come out while the baggage handlers finshed their lunch break!

London crew on board!

The brave swimmers on board! Tiny Mummy included!

It’s speeding up and slowing down

Time is playing tricks these days… sometimes fast sometimes so slow… Like the people waiting on Park Bench and other times like I am gasping for air as I am running so fast to catch up.

I have been brewing ideas for my new business idea… the other one I was working on earlier in the year is still in progress but I hope now that I have some time off on the horizon I will have time to develop them both at the same time!

Work tells me that they have found someone to replace me… which translates to they found a girl who is English who will come for an interview. I wish her the best of luck. Anyone really… if you are in Barcelona and you are a native English speaker and you are being courted by an agency for international coordination for a large automotive account… be warned!!!! Ah well maybe some fresh blood will be good. This race horse is ready to be put out to pasture that’s for sure!

26.7.06

Last night

I was strolling around the neighbourhood and I stopped by Vero’s shop where she was just finishing with her last client. We sipped some cava and then decided to head off down to the beach for a dip in the darkness. It has been so very hot here even well into the evenings that a night time swim was a welcome treat. We plunged in and splashed around. Moments like this I sometimes feel like pinching myself as it’s such a new experience for me, living by the sea that is… It was nice to spend a bit of time with her before she jets back to Marseille for the month of August.

This morning… as per usual the client arrived… the eeeeeevil one… Keep in mind that since my last posting my boss has quit the new account manager (who has only been here a few weeks) have all resigned. She arrived and spoke to the big boss who informed her that everyone was leaving because no one wanted to work with her. I do feel sorry for her what a shock this must have been to her… She then stormed out and cancelled the meeting. I tell you, it was a priceless moment in history here at this sweat shop agency… We can only assume that she has marched back to her boss and demanded that our agency be fired immediately. I can not wait to her what the repercussions are. Tuesday next week is my last day, I can only image that something major will happen between then and now.

Seestor has confirmed that she is arriving on the 31st at 17h which is very cool. I get to spend a couple of days with them around the city here before the rest of the Canadian crew arrives. Positive things on the horizon at last! There is light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not an oncoming train

20.7.06

I am so restless today

I am nearly vibrating… this week has been tough but I have finally officially resigned. They have asked me to stay here as a “favour” until the end of Sept. I don’t know how favours are supposed to work… but the anguish that would be involved in staying that long is too much to even calculate… generally when people quit their jobs it’s because they no longer want to work there… I do not see how this is not a clear concept to them. I really wish I felt relieved… but I have two weeks left to work here and time runs sticky slow like molasses in January here. My focus right now is getting though today and then to the safe harbour of the weekend.

Last weekend I ventured inland with my friend eric and his girlfriend deb for a lovely repose in the countryside. His father owns a house in a small village called Huesca. We picked up the lovely deb from the train station in lleida (she was coming from Madrid) and then ventured off… after pilling our shopping cart full of more booze than would be required for a small wedding… we head off for the house. We arrived Friday night and had a quiet supper and a few drinks. Saturday we spent the day lazing about the beautiful river that runs through the town. True relaxation…. Something that was not going to last long… We had supper and since we were all feeling quite spent, retired to bed very early at 23h30. At around 1am in the morning that’s when it all started… the town erupted with the sound of a massive stereo system… Music pumped and pounded out into the once tranquil landscape… there was nowhere to hide… This of course went on for hours… 6 hours to be precise. No sleep was had by anyone. ¡Que mal suerte! On Monday when I returned I had a good chuckle when I heard that my new colleague was at the very party in Huesca on Saturday… however he was smarter… he participated in it!

Possibly back out of the city the weekend to see fredu who is working for his friend Martin up in the Mountain in a small town called Sort… He rang this morning with bad news that his mobile was stolen from the hotel… bad indeed as it was my mobile. Ah well what can you do once it’s gone??? If I don’t venture there I may finally go out to razzamatazz with Chiara on Saturday night as they are going “early” as she has a flight home on Sunday morning at 8am! We will see how that goes. I never end up going as I find it too hard to comprehend going clubbing so late at night. Dear lord I am truly old. I remember how when I lived in France I used to set my alarm for 3am to get up to go to Sergeant Pop to go dancing!

Seestor did not get her mini block off from work as she had hoped however she intends to come to Spain come hell or high water… I can’t wait to see her and meet her new boyfriend… There are so many people coming I can’t wait it will be so much fun!!! If anyone else decides to join they will need to bring a tent to pitch in the garden!

Lets face it…

It does not take much to get me excited on a sunny Friday afternoon.

But the new Justin Timberlake single available for some sort of illegal download here (thank you popbitch):

It’s fantastic… I think I am just about to be able to admit that I bought his first album… it was a dark secret for a while but I think I can safely admit it now… baby steps…

It’s the bread and butter festival summer edition is here again… lots of parties going on and promotions and velvet ropes… I wonder if I will manage to muster up the energy to partake in some of the festivities.

New arrivals

My cousin and his wife have given birth to a lovely baby boy named Owen. He arrived last week and marks the first great grandchild for my grandparents and the first new addition to my family in nearly 12 years! Clever lad... he managed to win the first grandchild to marry and the first to produce a great grandchild in one foul swoop! The pressure if off the rest of us now!

In his honour I have tracked down one of my favorite clip from a mike myers film that my cousin often quotes from... enjoy it here.

Summer hours have started here which means in theory we work from 8h to 15h... we will try and see if that trick works today... with a fussy client who refuses to acknowledge the timetable I am sure it will be a bit of a push...

I got started on my newest painting this weekend and monday/tuesday as I was at home trying to calm down my lateset onset of athsma... watch this space... no more animals this time around... looks like I have skirted back to naked ladies once again... this is a large 90x90 canvas...thus this lady is nearly life sized... I did cut myself quite a challenge as this piece includes hands... lets just say that even if I can paint teeth... hands are a VERY different story. Odds are 10-1 that they end up looking like lobster claws... (trust me you should see them now)... note to self... hide hands in pieces!

My little cousin is...

Quite the achiever… so sporty! I can’t believe that she is off to university already… I must definitely be getting old!

It was really interesting to see the other kids listed in this section of their local newspaper… they all play so many sports! All of them so young and full of so much ambition… Could it be that 10 years on they will be jaded and burnt out like me? Perhaps I just chose the wrong career… who knows… maybe the best it yet to come… its so strange as it feels just like yesterday that I was going off to Uni… then finding a job… now I am here in Barcelona… I just would have never been able to guess it. Life does spin some interesting webs sometimes.

I had a really nice relaxing weekend… spent lots of time on the beach. I do not know what it is but something about lying down there soaking up the sun, really give you the impression that you are having a break.

The days are spinning by so quickly now… and next week we switch to summer hours. 8h-15h should be nice… that’s if I can stand working here much longer...

Full is not heavy as empty… not nearly my love

Miss manzana or apple as you may have it… is a very talented lyricist… oh to have been wise as that at 18… I think that’s about how old she was when she wrote those lyrics…
Oh for even just a pintch of wisdom… I think it be worth it’s weight in gold…

The villa is sorted which is such a releif… now it’s just a case of counting the days until all the fun starts. Oh yea the car too… not bad 260 euros for 15 days!!!!

The winds of change from the northerly direction… drifted past very quickly and the fates have decided that at this moment… all they have brought me is chilly breezes and unseasonably cold weather. Oh well maybe the next time around. Sigh.

The london girlie crew (minus andrea and jojo) arrive this weekend for Sonar… not that they are much for electronic music however there will be plenty of festivities going on this weekend to keep us in trouble.

Life just gets that tiny bit better when you arrive at the gym on Monday night and realise that there are new spinning classes… and that there is one starting in the next 10 minutes…. And that it’s your favourite instructor… then you also reaslise that there is also spinning on Tuesday at 20h too… My bikini may just have a fighting chance this year after all!

Villa hunting

I think is almost as exhausting as treasure hunting… There have been so many options flying around and just nothing has seemed just right yet… time is ticking and I am feeling really stressed as I have got to get this organised! I have found a place near girona that is a tad expensive but not as much as some of the other places I have found… I am hoping that the committee will like it and we can seal the deal.

Work is all about avoiding doing it… and the stupid sunburn I have from Sunday just will not relent… Too little time between application and swimming and re-application turned into a bit of a disaster…

The winds of change are blowing into Barcelona from a northerly direction and there are new beginnings on the horizons for some… could it be me? We’ll wait and see… lets hope so!

The girlies from London are arriving next Friday… just in time for Sonar and a weekend full of fun. Just have to convince miss andrea to come and join and then we will be set!

Three day week for me… spinning tonight… if I can make it…. Trying to find the positive in things where I can….
